Previous solutions often required multiple pumps and came with significant trade-offs. After more than two years of research and testing, AMS engineered a refined, high-performance fuel system designed for reliability and efficiency. Available in single and dual pump configurations, the Omega system supports up to 1200WHP or beyond, utilizing brushless pump technology to deliver consistent fuel delivery for high-powered builds.

Why Is A Brushless Motor Better?

• Heat generation is a common issue with brushed motor fuel pumps, stemming from the friction between the brushes and the commutator. This continuous rubbing action leads to wear and degradation of both the brushes and the commutator, making the fuel pump a wear item similar to brake pads and rotors. Additionally, pumping and pressurizing fuel also contribute to the generation of heat. Unlike brushless fuel pumps, which can adjust their output based on pressure requirements, brushed fuel pumps typically operate at a static output determined by the input voltage (battery voltage), resulting in the pump running at 100% duty cycle all the time. Consequently, the friction from the brushes and the constant pressurization of fuel combine to generate additional heat in the system.
• In contrast, brushless motors offer distinct advantages over brushed motors as they do not experience the same friction, wear, and heat generation. This is due to the absence of physical contact between components, except for a few bearings, and the use of a controller to regulate speed and output. The controller enables the pump to adjust its output based on the required pressure, leading to a notable reduction in fuel temperature. To ensure optimal performance, AMS Omega Fuel Pumps incorporate brushless motors of original equipment (OE) quality and automotive-grade brushless controllers, guaranteeing reliable and efficient operation.

• A significant issue faced by your R35 GT-R is the overheating of fuel within the fuel tank. Compounded by the proximity of the tank to the heat-soaked GR6 transmission and exhaust, the situation is worsened by the presence of 2 or 3 inefficient brushed pumps inside the tank. AMS Performance has observed instances where fuel inside a GT-R fuel tank reached boiling temperatures with as little as 140°F (60°C). When fuel boils, the output of the pumps drops dramatically, resulting in reduced fuel supply to the engine. Insufficient fuel supply can trigger a lean condition, leading to detonation or extreme combustion temperatures that are capable of melting engine components.

• The mechanical component of the fuel pump works in tandem with the electrical motor to pump and pressurize the fuel. Through extensive testing, AMS Performance discovered that the type of pump design significantly affects pumping efficiency, particularly under elevated fuel temperatures. Conventionally, vane-style or impeller-style pumps are utilized, but these can result in a significant drop in fuel output, reaching up to 50% at higher fuel temperatures. In contrast, the Omega Brushless Fuel Pump employs a screw-style pumping mechanism that is highly resistant to this phenomenon, ensuring consistent and reliable fuel delivery regardless of fuel temperature.

However, AMS’ screw-style fuel pump sets a new standard by maintaining significantly higher pressure even under challenging operating conditions. User Interface Makes Custom Tuning A Breeze

• Unlike many other aftermarket fuel systems, the controller provided by AMS Performance enables you to customize the fuel output according to your specific requirements. They offer pre-set basic settings that facilitate a quick and easy setup process. However, if you desire advanced functionality, their user-friendly Graphic User Interface (GUI) allows for effortless custom programming of the pump. The pump output can be easily controlled in one of three ways, providing you with flexibility and convenience in managing your fuel system.
• Basic: Set up a constant pump output simply by raising pump duty cycle to the desired fuel pressure
• Intermediate: Pump output can be staged based off of a switch. Using a Hobbs switch or WOT switch you can switch between two output percentages
• Advanced: Pump output can be referenced to a 0 to 5V input. Tapping into a MAP sensor or throttle position sensor will allow the fuel pump to linearly output more fuel as you increase throttle or increase MAP.

• Although opting for a lower-cost pump may initially seem appealing, the long-term consequences of overworking the pump and the potential damage it can cause to the engine can result in significantly higher costs.
